Melesina Trench

January 30, 2026

Writer, poet and diarist Melesina Trench authored The Moonlanders (1816), one of the earliest works of science fiction. In it, she imagined angel-like creatures who lived on a green moon.

This large-scale illustration is for Sun, Moon, Stars, and More, an interactive family trail opening today at Winchester Cathedral, where Trench is buried. The trail will run until March 1st, accompanying Helios, an art installation by Luke Jerram.
